Weather Report: Geo Political — “Just When You Thought it Was Safe to Go Back In The Water”, 1 & 2

GEO-POLITICAL–’JUST WHEN’ #1: “North Korea claims to have weaponized plutonium” says the CNN.com/asia (cnn.com) headline on 1/18/09.

“Selig Harrison, one of the few U.S. scholars granted access to senior North Korean officials, said at a news conference in Beijing that the officials told him that they had weaponized 30.8 kilograms of plutonium, enough for four or five warheads.”

‘JUST WHEN’ #2: “China reports two new cases of bird flu, one dead” posts Reuters AlertNet (alertnet.org, 1/18/09) article by Ian Ransom.

“BEIJING, JAN 18 (Reuters) – A woman in eastern China has died and a two year-old girl is critically ill in northern China after becoming infected with bird flu, state media said on Sunday.”

China is considered critical in the fight to contain bird flu as it has the world’s largest poultry population including a huge population of backyard birds.

As PrudentHome has indicated before, it’s wise to keep one’s eyes not just on the popular headlines of the day but also on the events which could impact and change those headlines. We need to keep on eyes on the whole skyline.

Until next time then, keep your eyes on the horizon.
