Waehter Report: The Economy-Drop In Factory Orders & U.S. Manufacturing Activity, The “Wide King”, A Source & Resource

THE ECONOMY-DROP IN FACTORY ORDERS & U.S. MANUFACTURING: According to YAHOO! NEWS (news.yahoo.com) of 11/04/08, in its’ article “Factory orders drop more than expected”, the drop in factory orders exceeded by more than three times the expected 0.8% to a whopping 2.5% for September. This surprising reduction followed a 4.3% (revised) slide in August.

These declines trail a U.S. economy that contracted at an annual rate of 3% in the recent third quarter.

While these numbers are shocking they come joined with the news of Monday’s (11/03/08) pronouncement by a private trade group that U.S. manufacturing activity fell in October to it’s lowest level in 26 years.

THE “WISE KING”: A tip of the PrudentHome cap to Mike Folkerth-King of Simple for his choice of Rupert Murdoch as recipient of his “Outstanding Idiot of the Year Award” for 2008.

According to Mike, Mr. Murdoch earned this coveted award in light his belief …”that infinite exponential growth of commerce, population, mineral extraction, energy production, and agricultural products have no barriers whatsoever; even on a finite land mass such as this big spaceship we call home.”

A SOURCE & RESOURCE: “The BACKWOODSMAN“, The Magazine for the Twenty-First Century Frontiersman, is both the source and resource. It is Richies Magazine with editor/publisher Charlie Richie calling the shots.

While this magazine is Mr. Richie’s, the contents are primarily provided by the readership. This uniquely constructed publication provides for a journal of simple, effective, economical, and interesting articles ranging from history (past, present, and future), to gardening, to recipes, to farm implement design and repair, to modification of fishing gear, knife construction, firearm selection and modification (older units), et al.

This is the publication of :“can-do”, “re-do”, “must-do”, “have-done”, and “do-it-yourself.” It is the periodical of doing-more-with-less, improvising, adapting, improving, making and creating things needed and desired. It looks back to a simpler past to help people deal with the present and what seems to be an uncertain future. You’ll want to SAVE every copy to re-read and reference.
