GEO-POLITICS : SCARY X 1 = The Jerusalem Post of 9/1/08 ( @ jpost.com ) reported in article entitled “U.S. to strike Iran in coming weeks,” that “ The Dutch intelligence service, the AIVD, has called off an operation aimed at infiltrating and sabotaging Iran’s weapons industry due to an assessment that a U.S. attack on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program is imminent, according to a report in the country’s De Telegraaf newspaper on Friday.”

SCARY X 2 = The Jerusalem Post of 8/30/08 ( @ jpost.com ) reported in the article “ Report: Israel won’t allow a nuclear Iran “ that “ Israel will not allow Iran to attain nuclear capability and if time begins to run out, Jerusalem will not hesitate to take whatever means necessary to prevent Iran from achieving it’s nuclear goals, …”

FOOD: Energy Bulletin (Food & Agriculture-9/1/08 ) notes in the article “ China raises, extends fertilizer duties” that China will raise export duties on synthetic ammonia and nitrogenous fertilizers to 150% “ …by the end of the year to curb outflows.” China’s actions promise to constrict further the world’s fertilizer supply on the global market as China is the worlds largest market. (Our view is that a reduction in fertilizer supply will probably produce higher fertilizer prices and from that, higher food prices.)
